Carers Allowance
You may be eligible to apply for Carer’s Allowance to help you look after someone with substantial caring needs.

If you are caring for a child under 16 years old with a disability or long term health condition the child may be eligible for Disability Living Allowance (DLA).  It is worth checking with a money advisor to see if you are receiving all the benefits available to you.

Read Ben's story to give an example of how a family struggling to make ends meet received additional income to help them care for their children.

You don’t have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

You need to be aged 16 or over and spend at least 35 hours a week caring for them.

If you are a carer, the Turn2us website is a useful source of reliable information.  Turn2us is a trusted charity and their website includes a benefit checker as well as information on all welfare benefits.

Carer’s Allowance can affect your other benefits - contact a money adviser for advice.
